About
Scarllett Brighouse was born in Liverpool, England and moved to Regina, Saskatchewan at a young age with her family in 2002. Working with a variety of media including digital media and painting. Brighouse is primarily interested in figuration and portraiture as a means to explore the complex matters of mental health, body and self perception.
With influences of expressionism and surrealism within her work, Brighouse is presenting the viewer with the inner struggles of body image and mental health. Brighouse repeatedly depicts multiple selves and anxieties, through the use of visceral colour, form and fragmented brush work, a sense of anxiety and disconnectedness with the body and mind are revealed.
